Parentification is a process of role reversal when a child is forced to act as parent to their own parent(s).
As a child, you may have:
Cared for your parent(s) emotionally or physically
Experienced emotional neglect
Been exposed to parental substance abuse or domestic violence
Been a child of a single parent
Your parents had expectations of you but provided no real guidance
We treat obsessive anxiety and high functioning depression in Black women who feel like they:
Can’t find healthy relationships
Feel undervalued at work
Feel their voice doesn’t matter in their families
Benefits of parentification therapy:
Increased connection with yourself first, then others
Improved emotional regulation skills
A new perspective on toxic family patterns
Decreased sadness, tearfulness and loneliness
Decreased negative thinking patterns
Our approach
We know that you value personal strength and genuine connection with others so we teach you how to create a healthy support system and help you uncover your personal core values that may highlight existing toxic relationship patterns.
